"Why Won't She Just Listen?" Copyright © Tim Walker http://www.homerangersuccess.com/
While the title may have captured your attention, understand that I am male, so I write like a man. Besides that, it's my story. My political correctives ends with the title so consider yourself warned.
I was so excited I could hardly stand it. After spending the last eight years on the road selling food door to door, I could finally see a way out. This was the answer, the ticket to our freedom and the key to our dreams. I went to the free seminar, met some good people, signed up and couldn't wait to get started. my biggest fear, however, was telling my wife just how much I had invested in our future. See, we had just refinanced our house to pay off other bills.
Needless to say, it was pretty ugly – she broke down in tears. They were not tears of joy. I knew she would understand eventually. "Hear, just listen to this CD, it explains everything." Listening to the CD's wasn't on her mind for the first few weeks. I knew that I had my work cut out for me so I got busy. By the end of the first three months I had recouped all our initial investment. She had seen the wheels in motion but still wasn't convinced.
I had quit my job and was doing the business full time. I had repeatedly and relentlessly explained to her that if she would quit her job and work with me full time, that we could easily triple our profits. That dog didn't hunt. She saw the income potential but still needed convincing that this was a real business.
It was time to move on to plan "B". I started rigging booby traps. I would strategically replace her reading materials with my positive information. My CD's would be in her car with no others available. After a few months my persistence had paid off. She had agreed to go with me to one of my meetings. That was the ticket, finally, she saw the light. All my words and schemes could only go so far, but when I placed her around others that were successful in the business, it all started to take a hold.
If my story is all too familiar to you, just remember to let your decisive actions speak louder than your words. By watching you grow, they will also. The checks don't lie so let them do your talking. Get them involved at their own pace and around others in the business that are more successful than you.
Today, we are working together, a little to close sometimes. She still tells me that I have an annoying habit of "hovering" over her. I prefer to call it "positive instruction." Our experiences in entrepreneurship are new to both of us – sometimes unexpected, sometimes exciting, but never boring.
So all of you disgruntled spouses out there take heart. Your loved ones will come around eventually when they understand that your commitment to grow is for their benefit as well. Above all, it will be you're actions, not your lip service, that draws them in. just remember, when you change your world, it may take a little convincing to make your loved ones a part of it.

"Honey, Will You Get That?" Or The Challenges of Working at Home With Your Spouse
Copyright © Tim Walker http://www.homerangersuccess.com/

While on the surface it may seem like a good idea, if not approached properly, working at home with your spouse could be a decision that you'll eventually regret. Sure, it can mean significant savings to the family budget, cutting down on things like gasoline, clothing and meals; however, being married can be tough enough without spending all day . . . everyday . . . and night together.
I had a much easier adjustment than my wife. After being on the road six days a week for eight years, working at home felt like a never-ending summer vacation. My wife, on the other hand, has been telecommuting from home for seven years and was used to the peace and quiet of being home alone. Now, all of a sudden, the tranquil surroundings that allowed her to concentrate on tedious projects was interrupted by the crunch of cereal as I peered over her shoulder and questioned her about her work. She also didn't seem to appreciate being presented with a daily list of assignments – lovingly prioritized - to move our home business forward. No matter how gently I tried to explain to her that I was now in a position to be her "coach" and "Sensei," she just wouldn't accept my new role.
All the little "adjustments" can be endured as long as both of you have a clear understanding of the goals you want to achieve in your business. You may learn that your expectations of the business and those of your partner are very different. It's best to write your goals down and revisit them often as you move your business forward. Clearly agreeing on defined goals will go a long way toward ensuring you are both playing in the same game. Unfortunately, if your goals are not aligned, your business will fail and your marriage could suffer irreversible damage.
In any kind of business it's also very important to have clearly roles. This is especially true when building a home-based business with your spouse. Jointly decide who will own the role of CEO (sales and marketing) and who will own the role of CFO (accountant and bookkeeper). The CEO spends to generate income while the CFO pays the company's bills and is very aware of the bottom line. It's best to look at each other's skills and plan individual roles that best compliment the strengths of each partner; however, a word of caution is in order. Just because one partner may have stronger skills or more experience in a particular area, doesn't necessarily mean that he or she wants to own those responsibilities. The spouse taking on the role must be willing to do so.
The decision-making role – like CEO - must be handled by one of the spouses, but there are others – like bookkeeping - that can be easily outsourced. Service providers for practically any type of work are plentiful and hungry for your business.
Isn't one of the reasons you're building a home-based business so you can do what you want, when you want and how you want? Forcing an unwanted task on an unwilling partner is asking for trouble. Spend the money . . . save the marriage!
Can you feel the storm brewing without clearly defined goals that will lead to miscommunication?
By all means, stay away from the "I'm the boss" mentality. I've tried it and failed miserably!
Try to avoid mixing work and family issues when on the job. It can be a great thief of time and focus. It's best to set a schedule for work with time to relax and play. Go out on a date every now and then. It will do both of you some good - the business and your relationship.
While all this may sound somewhat like a tirade, I surely don't mean it to be. These are just a few things to think about before jumping overboard and trying to tread water in a new environment, no matter how familiar. I absolutely love working from home with my wife (besides - she's the smart one) and would never want to go back on the cold lonely road again.

Why Can't I Get Started? Copyright

© Tim Walker http://www.homerangersuccess.com/

He sat and listened full of enthusiasm. This was his ticket out of the job he hated – the job where someone else controlled his hours and his income . . . where he was just a number in the company's bottom line and the decision of whether he had a job tomorrow or the next day was not his. This was his chance to escape . . . to get off the never ending treadmill of working for someone else.
He had heard it all before earlier this year. The first time in January . . . the second time in June. He bought all the materials after hearing the business opportunity in January . . . he was so fired up . . . he was going to make this work.
Now, here it is October and the materials are still in the box. "I just don't understand," he muttered to himself. "I had such good intentions. . . what's wrong with me?" Some of the people I met in January are already making money and I know I'm smarter than those guys. Why can't I get started?"
That was Joe's big question, and he didn't have an answer. It seems that life always seemed to get in the way. His daughter got married and his son wrecked his car and later there was the family vacation.
If you have ever longed for a way out your dead-end job, you may have a similar story. It's that vicious and all too familiar, dream-killing cycle of excitement . . procrastination . . . confusion . . . frustration . . . and then abandonment.
Having personally been caught in this whirlpool of despair, here are some things I learned that helped me break free from this repetitive behavior.
Invest in Your Education Don't be hesitant to spend money on the education, training, tools and resources that will help you learn how to be successful in your business. Not only when starting out, but continuously throughout your business cycle.
Listen to those with the Biggest Piles of Cash Listen to those who have made a lot of money in your business market. Take advantage of every coaching opportunity.
Network, network, network Network with others in the same business. Draw on each other experience, knowledge and ideas.
Find Your Niche Don't try to do everything at once. As Stephen Covey says, "Put first things first." If you're a real estate investor, it may be to first locate a property. If you're in mail order, it might be to place an Ad. In any business, you will learn as you go.
Get Out of Your Comfort Zone It's can be uncomfortable to take the first step, but just do it. Don't strive for perfection, just take some kind of action. If it's to look at an investment, make a phone call, or write an offer.
Don't Be Afraid of Failing Don't let fear of failure paralyze you into not making the move that could change your life forever. Failure is part of growing a business. It allows you weed out the things that don't work and fine tune the things that do work. It's part of the process.
Take Action Take a step forward every day – no matter how small – until you get used to the routine and then, pick up the pace. Have you ever heard of the cleaning product Formula 409? Formula 409 got it's name because Formula 1 through 408 failed!
Challenge yourself to do something to move your business forward every day and you will begin to grow.
For you to have more than you've got, you've got to do more than you've done and this will involve getting out of your comfort zone. Just remember this . . . if I want to run with the big dogs, I've got to get off my porch. How fast you get off your porch will be completely up to you.
The only difference between you and a millionaire is the size of your dreams. What they all have in common is that everyone of them stepped off the ledge – unable to see what lay ahead - believing that they would land on their feet. They took a leap of faith – a risk in their future and did what it took to make it happen.

Organization Without Hospitalization - In Your Home Office
Copyright © Tim Walker http://www.homerangersuccess.com/

Nothing is more frustrating or can cause your blood pressure to rise like being unable to find something when you need it. As business owners, our focus is on generating revenue. Things like replacing the staples or putting the scissors back in the drawer is not a top priority. However, the busier we are the more important our organization should be. Also, it's not a good thing to expect your spouse or business partner to know where everything is, either. I've tried and failed.
Many of us find the time to do things over but seldom take the time to do things right in the first place. Things like having to create a new file because you can't find the same one you made last week – because you didn't take 30 seconds to store it in the right place.
Being able to find things quickly - like printer ink - when your printer runs out can save not only time but also temperament. Searching through desk drawers, or worse yet, having to shut down and go buy more is a real time waster - especially when you know there is a supply somewhere in your office.
The office supplies that you maintain in your home office will depend on your budget, as well as your business. Nevertheless, don't let your desk become your storage area for your supplies. Use a bookcase or old dresser to store your office supplies, while keeping only a small amount at your desk. When storing your supplies in a storage area, use labels and be sure the tags are visible for easy identification.
To be a "smooth operator," make your desk the focal point of your office. All of the frequently used equipment should be within easy reach of your desk chair. If you have to get up from your desk several times a day to do things like check the printer, answer the phone, or grab a file, you are wasting productive time. Files on which you are working should be within easy reach such as in a file cabinet next to your desk, in an upright file holder on your desk or on an adjacent table. Ideally, you should be able to pull all the files you intend to work on that day and have them within easy reach. Files that you will not need should be in there proper place, so you can easily find them when needed.
Please understand, I myself am not "Mr. Organization." There have been days when my office appears to have been visited by an unexpected hurricane. If I practiced these tips religiously - I would see an increase my own productivity.
Best of luck and may your income always and forever exceed your blood pressure!

How To Survive In An Online Business
Copyright © Tim Walker
http://www.homerangersuccess.com/

If your company does not offer its services/products online, then you're definitely living in the Stone Age. Businesses today realize that in order to stay competitive, they have to communicate with today's audience who do business primarily online.
Running an online business means that you have a global audience. And having a global audience means that your store is up and running twenty four hours every day and seven days of the week. While your customers from New York might be sleeping, those from Tokyo would surely be awake. Therefore an online business is one that never sleeps. It is one that is always on call by customers. As such, an online business must be manned at all times, keeping a close watch on potential business.

In managing an online business, communication is important. Using email and instant messaging as a form of communication between you and your staff will surely be beneficial. There are also different technologies such as the VoIP that enables you to talk with your business partners and your staff from all over the world quite easily. But since you and your associates live in different time zones it is important to set up a specific time of the day when you can communicate with them about the updates and different issues that your business face today and what they need to do about it. You should make sure that they follow your instruction and schedule strictly.

Meetings are also a must for online businesses. Meetings are where you'll know the issues hounding your employees and problems that the business is facing. To be able to save on time and effort, online businesses today can meet in an online conference room. This will eradicate the need for physical space and manual preparations.

Another way to survive online is to build up your brand! Yes, brand is important even though you're on the Internet. Building your brand means providing good products, fast services, and pleasant experiences to your customers. Yes, you'll definitely want your customers to have pleasant experiences. Remember, word spreads fast on the Internet. If you have one customer who had a not-so-good time in dealing with your online business and spreads the rumor, then chances are your name will be ruined.

Don't forget that your website is the face of your online business. Surviving in the online world means that your online business must be able to keep up with the latest technology. And in designing your storefront always keep navigation in mind. A potential customer would not want to visit twenty different web pages just to buy a certain product.

Surviving your online business is tough. Everyday, there are thousands of companies going online and millions of individuals setting up an online business. Ultimately, the key is to success in this endeavor is to love what you do. After all, not everyone gets to touch lives in a global scale.
